Uchiwa-moku is a common motif found on Japanese metalware, and it’s widely believed to be a uniquely Japanese traditional handcraft technique. However, in fact, the uchiwa-moku pattern originally originated from Chinese silverware. It was only because Japan has so meticulously preserved the various traditional rituals of the tea ceremony that this technique has been better passed down and widely adopted—precisely what our own people have largely lost.
