As an important refrigeration device, lithium bromide units have been widely adopted in industrial production and large-scale building air-conditioning systems in recent years. Thanks to their unique cooling principle and highly efficient, energy-saving characteristics, they have become a crucial technological support for promoting green buildings and sustainable development.

 Lithium bromide unit

The working principle of a lithium bromide absorption chiller is primarily based on the hygroscopic nature of lithium bromide solution and the processes of evaporation and condensation. Inside the chiller, the lithium bromide solution absorbs heat from an external heat source, causing it to evaporate and generate refrigerant vapor. The vapor then releases heat in the condenser and condenses back into a liquid, completing a continuous cycle that achieves the cooling effect. This cooling method does not require a conventional compressor, resulting in lower energy consumption and making it particularly well-suited for utilizing low-grade heat sources such as waste heat, geothermal energy, and solar energy for cooling purposes.

Take large commercial buildings as an example: lithium bromide absorption chillers are widely used in central air-conditioning systems. In such applications, these chiller units can extract energy from flue gases produced by combustion, waste heat from power generation, geothermal wells, or waste heat generated during industrial processes, and convert it into chilled water to cool the air-conditioning system. This approach not only reduces the energy consumption of building air-conditioning systems but also enables the effective utilization of waste heat resources—achieving two goals with one action. For instance, in certain industrial parks, lithium bromide absorption chillers are employed to recover waste heat emitted by factory boilers, converting it into cooling capacity that serves both office buildings and production workshops within the park. As a result, energy efficiency is significantly enhanced, helping enterprises achieve their energy-saving and emission-reduction targets.

Meanwhile, lithium bromide chillers are also widely used in fields such as agriculture, food refrigeration, and data center cooling. For example, in fresh produce storage facilities, lithium bromide chillers can utilize the thermal energy generated from biomass fuels to provide cooling, thereby maintaining a stable low-temperature environment for fruits and vegetables, effectively extending their shelf life while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Overall, lithium bromide absorption chillers have demonstrated significant technological advantages and social value in the refrigeration field thanks to their high efficiency, energy savings, and environmental friendliness. As the concepts of green building and sustainable development continue to gain widespread acceptance, the research, development, and application of lithium bromide absorption chillers will be further promoted and optimized, making greater contributions to energy conservation and emission reduction efforts both in China and around the world.
